In this article we will try to give some more information about these so different types of floorings. People often get confused and think they are one and the same product, but if they compare their composition the two types of floorings are thoroughly different. This is because the linoleum is composed entirely of natural materials, and the vinyl flooring has a 100% PVC in its ingredients.

Linoleum

Vinyl flooring

Linoleum:

- composition: 100 % natural materials - linseed oil, wood and cork flour, mineral pigments, jute.

- properties: high wear resistance, anti-bacterial, heat-insulating, anti-slip and anti-statical properties.

- application areas: offices, hospitals, doctors` offices, kindergartens, schools, stores, etc.

- installation methods: the linoleum is installed through full-surface gluing and the joints are welded with welding rod.

- requirements regarding the base: dry, flat, even, solid, free from dust and other contaminants.

Heterogeneous vinyl floorings:

- composition: upper layer from transparent polyurethane, color bearer layer, glass fiber layer, lower polyurethane layer.

- properties: highly wear resistant, sound damping, anti-slip, heat-insulating, anti-statical properties, easy cleaning and maintenance.

- application areas: offices, hospitals, kindergartens, schools, stores, etc.

- installation methods:  the vinyl floorings are installed through full-surface gluing and the joints are welded with welding rod.

- requirements regarding the base: dry, flat, even, solid, free from dust and other contaminants.

From the stated above it is clear that the main difference between these two types of flooring is in their composition. Due to the difference in composition, i.e. due to the presence of linseed oil in the composition of the linoleum, the flooring has anti-bacterial properties, which makes it particularly suitable for kindergartens, hospital rooms, doctors' offices, hospital corridors and other premises where hygiene is very important. The other difference is that the linoleum is homogeneous flooring. Of course, there are homogeneous vinyl floorings too, but we will discuss them in one of our following articles.
